His Highness Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed bin Sultan Al Qassimi, Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Sharjah, today inaugurated the new Jet Fuel Storage Facility & Pipeline completed by locally based oil and gas fabrication specialists Maritime Industrial Services Co. Ltd. Inc. (OSE: MIS), for Sharjah Pipeline Company – PIPECO (Air BP) at Hamriya Free Zone, Sharjah, United Arab Emirates.
MIS was awarded the US$ 29.6 M contract for design, supply, construction and commissioning of the facility. The contract was completed successfully, within the agreed budget and schedule, and, importantly, achieved the HSE goals of both the owner and the contractor, with 1.4 million man-hours achieved with no Loss Time Accident (LTA). This earned MIS the "Operational Excellence Award" from Air BP in recognition of outstanding performance in Project Safety Management.
The new storage facility and 42km pipeline project eliminates the current method of transfer of jet fuel by heavy road tankers thereby helping reduce traffic congestion, environmental hazards, and improving public safety.
Speaking after the inauguration, MIS Managing Director Jerry Smith said, “This project further highlights MIS’s commitment to delivering innovative solutions to our oil and gas partners whilst maintaining highest health, safety and environmental standards.”
